  1. To reiterate: it's to focus them on the elements of craft by taking them out of the comfort zone of world-building and the interesting "hook" that is built into genres. It has nothing to do with one type of setting being more valuable literature than the other, and everything to do with the process of learning to write a more well-crafted story.
